Accessibility Statement

We study aging, so we know how much design choices matter to people living with changes in vision, hearing, memory, and movement. We want everyone to be able to read this site, learn about our studies, and reach us.

Our standard

This site is built to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the standard named in the U.S. Department of Justice web accessibility rule for state and local government entities published in 2024.

What we have built in

• Large default text and layouts that reflow when you zoom to 200% or more.
• Text and interface colors checked against WCAG AA contrast requirements.
• A skip link, one main landmark per page, and headings in a logical order.
• Every control reachable and operable with a keyboard, with a clearly visible focus outline.
• Descriptive text alternatives for meaningful images, and no text baked into images.
• Form fields with real labels, clear instructions, and errors described in words rather than color alone.
• Tap targets sized for phones and tablets, and no reliance on hover to reveal content.
• Links that describe where they go, with a note when they open in a new tab.
• No content that flashes, and no motion that cannot be stopped.
• A phone line for anyone who would rather talk with a person than fill out a form.

Known limitations

Some pages link to documents, news articles, and videos published by other organizations. We cannot control the accessibility of those materials. If something we link to is not accessible to you, tell us and we will help you get the information another way.
